We love watching our neighborhood grow before our eyes. This evolution that’s currently spanning the entire city is inspiring to say the least. We have art and food, music and tech–all bursting with local talent and worldly skills. The renaissance has even spread to the wellness community, one can now take classes in all forms of practice where the pickings were slim only just a few years ago. This growth has come to our neck of the woods and we can’t hide our excitement for a healthy lifestyle. Check out some of the neighborhood’s best spots for a good sweat:
Mickey Demos Boxing
Their boutique boxing and fitness facility that provides boxing fitness classes designed by Mickey Demos, University of Miami boxing coach and architect of the Mickey Demos Fitness Method. Their classes are designed for all fitness levels and incorporate interval training, high intensity cardio, plyometrics, strength training, and real boxing technique, which combined, result in a fast-paced, fun workout that maximizes your body’s potential.
Santuario was founded by a group of yogis, travelers, surfers, martial artists, skaters, and mindful gallivanters who are dedicated to sharing the stoke of life. They are a salty group of barefoot bandits who think that a healthy life is a well balanced one. Their Miami studio is their starting point for a bigger vision to bring together a community through the practice of yoga. Their hopes are to offer a local “sanctuary” of sorts where you can disconnect to reconnect to a more mindful way of living.
Rikki Kamensky is a Yoga Instructor, Licensed Massage Therapist, entrepreneur, the sole owner of Inhale Miami, a multi-purpose Holistic space in Miami’s Little River district and founding member of non-profit Yoga Kidz Inc. After opening Inhale in September 2015, Rikki saw the need for affordable yoga in the Little Haiti area and now offers a free weekly yoga class for those who can’t afford yoga, as well as Free Yoga for Autism and coming in August, Free Yoga for Veterans. She opened the non-profit Yoga Kidz Inc. in 2015 to bring awareness to the importance of diversifying the yoga community.
Youfit was founded by Rick Berks with the aim of creating gyms with a welcoming atmosphere. The first Youfit, in St. Petersburg, Florida, opened in 2008. Youfit places a great emphasis on environmental responsibility. Its gym floors are made from Nike Grind and other recycled rubber materials, and each Youfit location practices additional eco-friendly initiatives. Youfit offers personal training at all its locations through its YouCoach program. Class formats include Zumba, yoga, cardio kickboxing and Insanity. At select locations, Youfit organizes Healthways SilverSneakers classes for seniors.
Ironflower Fitness classes include a range of equipment that is challenging and strengthening but exciting all in the same breath. Whether your class includes, Battle Ropes, Benches and Boxing Bags, Trx, Plyo Boxes and Bosus , Kettle bells, Free weights, Barres or Bikes, be ready to Sweat, Climb, Crawl, Dance, Kick, Punch or Meditate but they will get you to your finish line. Their world class instructors, along with badass playlists, and club like lighting make getting and staying in shape something you simply can not live without.
SolBox Fitness Club is a cross training studio that adds a personal touch to your exercise experience. They specialize in teaching you the proper techniques during their boxing and fitness classes which we also call sessions. At SolBox Fitness Club the emphasis is on teaching, learning and sharing. They are not another Cardio style boxing gym or another Bootcamp style fitness facility. They teach you the fundamental movements of boxing and calisthenics so that as you progress, “you” the member, are able to learn what you are doing and why you are doing it.
